September 28 & 29
Per Tengstrand, Piano
Opening Night Dvorak's "From the New World"

HIGDON Blue Cathedral
SCHUMANN Piano Concerto
DVORAK Symphony no. 9 "From the New World"

A concert of record holders: Dvorak’s New World Symphony still vies for the title of Greatest Piece of Music Ever Composed in America. Schumann’s only piano concerto, sometimes considered the greatest piano concerto ever composed, was a model for Johannes Brahms. Jennifer Higdon’s deeply moving Blue Cathedral is the most performed piece of new music in the country.

November 2 & 3
Alexandre Bouzlov, Cello
Tchaikovsky’s "Pathétique"

HAYDN Cello Concerto no.1
TCHAIKOVSKY Variations on a Rococo Theme
TCHAIKOVSKY Symphony no. 6 "Pathétique"

We present two very different sides of Peter Tchaikovsky: the classicist in a tribute to the elegance and sparkle of the music of the past, and the romantic in his final emotional outpouring to the world. Alexandre Bouzlov is known for his pristine technique and gorgeous tone; here he plays to his greatest strengths.

MAHLER Symphony no. 1 "Titan"

Gustav Mahler once said that a symphony should embrace "the entire world." His first symphony, the "Titan," does just that - it's four movements contain all the joy, longing, passion, pain, anxiety and triumph of existence.
