BEIJING, January 26, 2026 – The World Sustainability Standard Organization (WSSO), in close collaboration with the Institute of Technical Information for Building Materials Industry, successfully held an International Standard Launch Meeting in Beijing on January 26, 2026. This significant event marks a major milestone in advancing sustainability standardization in the global building materials sector, laying a solid foundation for the industry’s green and low-carbon transformation.
A key highlight of the meeting was the official establishment of the WSSO/TC1 Building Materials Technical Committee, coupled with the simultaneous launch of 12 international standards focused on green and low-carbon development in the building materials field. These two core outcomes work in tandem to drive systematic progress in industry standardization and sustainable development.
The establishment of the WSSO/TC1 Building Materials Technical Committee signifies a crucial transition from scattered, project-based standard development to a more systematic, coordinated, and institutionalized approach in the building materials sector. Its core mission is to integrate advanced green building materials technologies and industry practices into international standards, enhance alignment with global sustainability norms, and provide strong standardization support for the industry’s comprehensive green transformation.
• Organizational Advancement: The Sub-Technical Committee strengthens institutional coordination among global stakeholders, promoting a structured, full-cycle standardization mechanism that covers research, formulation, review, and promotion, effectively addressing the fragmentation of past standard development efforts.
• Leadership Appointment: The committee will be led by professional leaders in the building materials field, guiding the integration of industry resources, academic research, and enterprise practices to significantly improve the effectiveness, operability, and applicability of standards.
• Standard Launch: The 12 newly launched international standards cover key areas critical to the building materials industry’s sustainable development, including energy efficiency improvement, carbon emission reduction, solid waste recycling and utilization, and green supply chain management.
Designed with the principles of being measurable, verifiable, and implementable, these 12 standards fill gaps in global building materials sustainability standards, providing practical technical guidance and support for enterprises to achieve green transformation and sustainable development.
Moving forward, WSSO will take the establishment of the WSSO/TC1 Building Materials Technical Committee as an opportunity to further advance the research and development of building materials sustainability standards. It will strengthen international collaboration with global industry organizations, research institutions, and enterprises, and continuously enhance the global applicability and recognition of its standards. Through these efforts, WSSO aims to fully support the low-carbon transformation of the global building materials industry and contribute positively to the development of a global circular economy.
